NOVEMBER MIX // MOTOKO KIKKAWA

We are thrilled to announce Motoko Kikkawa as this month’s guest!

Motoko is a key figure in Ōtepoti’s creative community, working prolifically across multiple mediums. She is most known though for her beautifully intricate ink and watercolour drawings, solo violin performances and collaborative sound experiments, including with electro-acoustic noise group The Ladder is Part of the Pit.

Another manifestation of these experiments has been her Blind Jam series, where local collaborators are invited to perform blindfolded without knowing who they are playing with.

Motoko has generously provided us with a live recording of a transcendental improvised jam featuring handmade metal instruments, electric guitar, violin and vocals. The jam was recorded with Mark Sadgrab, Mark Anderson, Matthew George Richard Ward and Akemi at Sound Studio DOM during a recent trip to Tokyo last month.

Speaking about the recording Motoko said: “in my head I see a scene - a huge metal building in ruins, different kind of visitors come and go.

Tracklist:

dom jam - Mark Sadgrab, Mark Anderson, Matthew George Richard Ward and Akemi, Motoko Kikkawa
