DECEMBER MIX // KAISHANDAO

DECEMBER MIX // KAISHANDAO

To celebrate the first day of summer and the last mix of 2019 we have Kaishandao!

Kaishandao is the live experimental dance project of Kristen Ng. While Kristen grew up in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, she is now based in Chengdu, China where she plays an active part in the underground scene as both a performer and promoter.

Upon relocating to China in 2013, Kristen started the multimedia blog Kiwese to highlight independent music, arts and culture in China and Aotearoa. In 2015, Kiwese established itself as a touring label and promotion agency for NZ acts to the Mainland, most recently bringing over Womb and Strange Stains for a ten-date tour in July of this year.

Kristen is also the co-facilitator of Chengdu Community Radio and manages live bookings at NU SPACE, curating a diverse range of events including the hybrid performance series Blah Blah, collective synthesiser night SYNC and alternative dance session Faux Club, as well as music programming for NUART Festival.

This mix features a few of Kristen’s own tracks, including one from Like Splitting the Head from the Body: Remixes, released just last week. Each track from the original album has been reimagined by a different producer from across China or Aotearoa, including past guest DJ Snakelegs (AKA Alexa Casino).
