APRIL MIX // SARSHA-LEIGH DOUGLAS

APRIL MIX // SARSHA-LEIGH DOUGLAS

A lot has changed over the past month and I’m sure a lot of us are craving the communal and physical experience of live shows. As days start to blur and time risks warping into shapeless monotony, this mix jolts us awake and provides a much-needed injection of energy.

At the helm is local punk icon and multi-instrumentalist, Sarsha Leigh-Douglas. Sarsha currently plays bass in D-beat/crust/fast-punk band Rogernomix and grudge band Unruly, as well as guitar and vocals in doom-punk band DÄHTM. She has also previously played in bands including Freak Magnet, Fantails, Bonecruncher, TVX, Cult of the Cobra, Natural Glow, Shock Futuro and Shortlived.

As well performing in a dizzying number of bands, Sarsha has been involved in all things punk from zine distribution, screen-printing and event organising. Her zine, Mind Lint, covered music, politics and social issues from a Māori anarcho-feminist perspective between 2008 and 2012. This passion for punk and indigenous rights further collided in her masters thesis Outcasts and Orchestrators: Finding Indigeneity in Contemporary Aotearoa Punk Culture, where she explored the potential for punk to provide solidarity to indigenous punks through its egalitarian philosophies and ethos of freedom and autonomy.

Sarsha’s mix features tracks from friends Coco Solid, Unsanitary Napkin and Vomit Storm, taking unexpected twists and turns along the way. It’s just what we need a week into lockdown to keep our sights set on reuniting with our community in the mosh pit and on the dance floor.

Take care & see you on the other side xx
